Grant Lifecycle

You can find here sections dedicated to each phase of a grant lifecycle laid out by PCM:

  • Programming: Country offices identify and review their target group, needs analysis, response logic, and theory of change based on information from country staff, NRC's Global Strategy, Field Operations Strategy, and the respective regional strategy.
  • Identification: A solicitation from a donor – a potential funding source or a funding "opportunity" – is identified (often by Institutional Partner Advisers, Regional Partner Advisers, or Heads of Program) and a decision on whether or not to pursue it is made at the country management level based on whether the opportunity is aligned with country strategy and capacity, as well as NRC donor requirements.
  • Formulation: Based on a decision to fundraise or pursue an available funding opportunity, the record is designed and a proposal is drafted, including log frame, budget and work plan.
  • Implementation: After the project concept or proposal is approved and signed, the project is implemented; this includes operational planning, project reviews, and adaptation. Monitoring plays an essential part.
  • Evaluation: After the projects' implementation, the project is closed and lessons learned are documented. The project outcomes and lessons are collectively feed into the yearly strategy update/development.
