Cycles Knowledge base
What is Cycles
Objective
Cycles (formerly PMIS, Project Management Information System) will ultimately be a project management tool designed with NRC staff for NRC staff to centrally manage all project-related information across a standard lifecycle and allow teams at all levels of the organization to engage on the same platform.
Vision
Once fully implemented, it will be an end-to-end solution to record all projects across the Project Cycle Management (PCM) lifecycle as well as track key relationships with donors and partners. Critical project data – such as location, core competency, project stakeholders, and financials – will be centralized and standardized, therefore enabling a richer data set for learning, quick decision-making, and easier reporting.
What problems does this tool solve?
- Management of project information in silos.
- Inconsistent adherence to PCM protocols.
- Inconsistent project quality (under or over-spending, project extensions).
- Limited use of timely data for real time decision-making and future program-planning.
How it affects my work?
The PCM framework defines the management activities and tools in the different phases of the programme and project life cycle. NRC’s governance documents including, but not limited to, NRC Policy and NRC Programme Policy apply throughout the project cycle. It is the responsibility of staff to be aware of these documents. PCM tools and resources are available on NRC’s Intranet. Consult your Head of Programme, Area Manager or CD to access the resources where intranet is not accessible.
PMIS is focused primarily on PCM and those involved in this process. But it is also an important touchpoint for all indirectly involved in PCM:
- Grants creators – Grants Coordinators, Grants Managers, Grants Officers;
- Decision makers – Regional Directors, Country Directors, Area Managers;
- Technical advisors – CC specialists;
- Project builders – PDMs;
- Grants advisors – Program Advisors, Institutional Program Advisors;
- Data checkers – M&E specialists, Finance specialists, Partnership specialists.
Here you can find more information about what features you and your colleagues might find most valuable in Cycles – and help you deliver better.
